Test-day friction can be rehearsed
CELPIP is fully computer-delivered. The centre provides the headset and microphone, supplies paper for notes, and requires that paper to be returned. Practice should therefore include mouse selection, typing on a standard QWERTY English keyboard, reading on screen, compact handwritten notes, and speaking into a microphone.
Official test-day guidance says to arrive 45 minutes early; check-in closes 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Bring the original valid identification used to register and a digital or printed test-confirmation email. Personal belongings other than identification are stored outside the test room.
Equipment habits protect language performance
Use the audio check to find a clear headset volume. During the microphone check, speak at a natural pace and listen back for volume, distance, and intelligibility. Do not lean closer sentence by sentence. For Writing, practise normal editing with the mouse and keyboard instead of relying on unfamiliar shortcuts.
CELPIP Tests are timed and do not pause for a washroom break. Use the washroom before check-in, and build one-sitting stamina during rehearsal. If an equipment or test issue occurs, raise it with test-centre personnel immediately; the official process also requires affected test-day issues to be submitted through the CELPIP Account within 24 hours.
Use ROOM: Ready documents, Operate, One sitting, Monitor
- Ready documents.Check the confirmation email, centre address, time, registration details, and original valid identification.
- Operate.Rehearse mouse, QWERTY keyboard, headset, microphone, screen reading, and compact paper notes.
- One sitting.Complete a full ordered simulation without pausing the clock or checking answers.
- Monitor.Report an immediate problem to staff, record what happened, and use the official account process within 24 hours if it affected the test.
Run a realistic final rehearsal
Before: set the computer to a standard English QWERTY layout, prepare one blank sheet and pen, confirm audio input and output, silence notifications, and place only the materials that simulate the centre workflow on the desk.
During: complete Listening, Reading, Writing, then Speaking in one sitting. Do not pause for a snack, search a word, replay audio, or study feedback. Use paper notes briefly and speak through moderate background typing audio if that helps rehearse attention.
After: note any equipment hesitation, attention drift, missed transition, or urge to pause. Repair those behaviours before the actual test; do not use the rehearsal to memorize answers.
Practical gaps that appear only under test conditions
- Late arrival plan. Travel is timed to the scheduled start instead of the required early arrival.
- Wrong identification. The learner does not check the exact original document used for registration.
- Home-equipment assumption. Practice never includes a headset, microphone playback, or standard keyboard.
- Private-room dependence. Nearby typing or speaking captures attention.
- Personal notepaper. The learner plans around materials that cannot enter the room.
- Paused stamina practice. Breaks hide the cost of a one-sitting test.
- Silent issue. An equipment problem is tolerated instead of reported immediately.
Respond correctly to an audio problem
During the test, the headset produces intermittent sound. What should the learner do?
- Continue silently and mention it after scores are released.
- Raise a hand and report it to test-centre personnel immediately; if it may have affected the result, follow the CELPIP Account issue process within 24 hours.
- Remove the headset and use a personal device.
Reveal the answer
Option 2. It follows the official immediate-reporting and account-reporting process. Personal devices are prohibited, and waiting can remove the opportunity for corrective action.
Remove preventable uncertainty
- Have I checked the centre, date, time, and 45-minute arrival plan?
- Do I have the original valid identification used to register?
- Can I type and edit comfortably on standard English QWERTY?
- Have I rehearsed headset volume and microphone position?
- Can I use compact notes on one supplied-style sheet?
- Have I completed the four components in one timed sitting?
- Can I ignore nearby typing or speaking and return to my task?
- Do I know how and when to report a test-day issue?
